The purpose of the HVFD is to expend
every reasonable effort for the protection of life and property within the Harrison Fire Department boundaries in the prevention and suppression of fire and all other emergencies, hazardous conditions or situations, and rescue operations. We pledge to support all county and state entities with mutual aid within our capabilities. | Department History
The Harrison Volunteer Fire Dept. was established Feb. 3, 1915. The towns of Norris and Pony were annexed in during 1946, followed by the Summit Valley area in 1965. At the time the department was established, there was an annual member fee of $2 per person. The dept. was 30 members strong with a long waiting list of those wishing to join.
Today, Harrison, Pony, Norris, Summit Valley Volunteer Fire Dept.consists of 16 volunteer members between the Quick Response Unit (QRU) and the Fire Dept. They are on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and provide a dedicated service to the community and mutual aid to the surrounding areas in need. These services include emergency medical response, traffic control, fire response and investigation, rescue response, wildland firefighting, and fire safety education. Our rural district , covering 230 square miles, including a span of 147,000 acres and 726 residents, requires four stations and occasional mutual aid to thoroughly cover all areas. |
