Mission Statement
The purpose of the HVFD is to expend every reasonable effort for the protection of life and property within the Harrison Fire Department boundaries in the prevention and suppression of fire and all other emergencies, hazardous conditions or situations, and rescue operations. We pledge to support all county and state entities with mutual aid within our capabilities.
Membership
1. Membership: Shall be open to all persons.
2. An applicant shall be classified as "probationary" for a minimum of 90 days and shall be advanced to membership by the nomination of the Fire Chief and majority vote of members present at a monthly meeting.
3. A member must attend a minimum of 50% of all training meetings (by hours) and 75% of all business meetings (9 of 12) on an annual basis unless excused by the Fire Chief. Probationary members must complete basic training within a time frame set by the Fire Chief.
4. Upon fire alarm, the duty of every fire fighting member is to respond to the fire station and assist in the emergency until released by the officer in charge, while utilizing ICS.
5. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, must work under the direct supervision of a qualified fire fighter during their probation. And will remain on probationary status until the legal age for the State of Montana is attained. (See Junior Fire Fighter SOP) Members shall be at least 18 years of age, trained and authorized by the Fire Chief, and posses a valid driver's license, before they can drive a HVFD vehicle.
Probation
1. Probation is a term involving a period of time as determined by the Fire Chief. Probationary periods shall be imposed at the discretion of the Fire Chief, but are limited to the following situations:
a. New applications for membership.
b. A member not in compliance with the HVFD's By-Laws or SOP's.
2. During this time, the individual shall be observed to determine the level of competence. Members of the HVFD shall have the right to grievance in accordance with Article V to any probationary period invoked by the Fire Chief or President.
